Working mainly under two aliases, Laboratory 0 and YYS, Samuel has spent over a decade shaping sound.

Primarily shaped through electronic sound, his work moves between cinematic spaces and club-focused tools. While rooted in futuristic themes, a lingering sense of nostalgia and distance is carried through raw synth textures and understated emotion.

"It doesn’t feel tied to any real place, or even to time, as if it’s coming from slightly outside the everyday."

STUDIO

Samuel Yang’s home studio is equipped with hardware synthesizers, including modular systems in Eurorack and Buchla formats — a key source of creative inspiration. It also features a state-of-the-art mixing and mastering chain, powered by the RME ADI-2 PRO FS R converter, RME UCX II audio interface, Elysia analog processors, and a Neumann monitoring system.

“Molecules” - Live Studio Session

“Molecules” is a live recorded studio session combining music and visuals. The arpeggios are made from scratch and tweaked live with the Eurorack modules, which are being synced and sequenced in real-time by the pre-written CV notes from Ableton Live, while the drums and the synth pads are also written and arranged in the DAW. The recording from the Eurorack and from the DAW are being played back simultaneously and processed through the effects, and the master bus goes into Elysia outboard sound processors for final polishing. The audio-reactive visuals are originally programmed by visual artist Alessandra Tagliatti, remixed and arranged by Samuel Yang using Max 8 and Ableton Live under permission, and are being rendered in real-time.
